PostHeaderIcon Social Media: A new language for small business

There is a new language being created right under my nose. It’s the language of Twitter, linkedin, ustream, BTR and a bunch of others. It’s taken me years to adequately speak the language of Facebook and Myspace, but now

people are becoming more and more familiar with new ways to communicate, share information and broadcast. At first, I tried to hide from this new reality, assuming fads will fade.  But now, getting involved in web-communities seems to be the ONLY way to be relevant now and especially in the future. To the entrepreneurial community, this means opportunity…and a learning experience.

If you are becoming interested in online communities (social networks) but don’t know where to start, I suggest you start with You Tube. Here is a blog I cam across that explains the benefits of You Tube and how to get started. Read it.  Don’t worry, the blog is very easy to understand (and short). You Tube is very easy to use software that can really boost your visibility and interactivity. Did I mention…IT’S FREE. Free is good. Free is always good.

But even free stuff can seem intimidating.

So, first spend an hour getting to know the service. Then, experiment. You don’t need a video to get started! Just try and fail (that’s how most people learn). After a while, you will see that it really isn’t all that difficult and after that, you will be able to say to a customer, “Type is (your business name) n You Tube to watch our latest project.” How cool will that be!
